Overview
Strathmill, in Keith, is a light, slightly nutty Speyside malt made almost entirely for the J&B blend and rarely bottled on its own.
The history
Strathmill began as a meal mill (Strathisla Mills) converted to a distillery in the boom year of 1891, and was bought in 1895 by the gin-and-wine firm Gilbey, whose J&B blend it has served ever since.
The water & the land
Strathmill is made with local springs on Balloch Hill / the Broad Burn, with cooling from the River Isla at Keith.
Strathmill had no founding clan — it was a converted mill at Keith, in Grant/Findlater–Seafield country.
Visiting
Strathmill is not open to the public — it is a working production distillery with no visitor centre. Its whisky appears mainly in blends and in occasional official or independent single-malt bottlings.
