Overview

Mannochmore, near Elgin, is a modern blending distillery sharing a site with Glenlossie. It is best remembered by enthusiasts for the notorious “Loch Dhu” — a jet-black, heavily-caramelised whisky of the 1990s that has become a collector’s curiosity.

The history

Mannochmore was built in 1971 by the Distillers Company (DCL) on the Glenlossie site, to boost blend-malt capacity, and it has worked as a Diageo blending distillery ever since.

The water & the land

Mannochmore is made with water from the Bardon Burn, shared with Glenlossie.

Mannochmore had no founding clan — it was a modern DCL build near Elgin, in historic Grant/Gordon Moray.

Visiting

Mannochmore is not open to the public — it is a working production distillery with no visitor centre. Its whisky appears mainly in blends and in occasional official or independent single-malt bottlings.
