Overview
Glencadam, in the little cathedral city of Brechin, is a well-kept secret — a maker of a clean, creamy, elegant Highland malt that had no visitor centre for almost two centuries until one finally opened in 2025. It is the last working distillery in Brechin, which once had two.
The history
Glencadam was founded in 1825 and has quietly made whisky in Brechin ever since, latterly under the independent blender Angus Dundee. In 2025 it opened its first visitor centre in some 200 years.
The water & the land
Glencadam draws its water from the River South Esk.
Glencadam had no founding clan — it was a commercial distillery at Brechin in Angus, historic country of the Lindsay Earls of Crawford.
Visiting
Glencadam opened a new visitor centre with a café in 2025 and runs guided tours and tastings — book ahead; check the website. Brechin’s round-towered cathedral is a short walk away.
