Overview
Glen Elgin makes a honeyed, aromatic Speyside malt that is the key filling for the White Horse blend. Little-known on its own, it is well regarded by those who seek it out.
The history
Glen Elgin was built in 1898–1900 — the last distillery of the great Victorian boom before it collapsed — and it struggled at first, changing hands repeatedly before settling as the heart of White Horse under the DCL and its successor Diageo.
The water & the land
Glen Elgin draws on springs near Millbuies Loch, south of Elgin.
Glen Elgin had no founding clan — it was a commercial venture near Longmorn and Elgin, in historic Grant/Gordon Moray.
Visiting
Glen Elgin is not open to the public — it is a working production distillery with no visitor centre. Its whisky appears mainly in blends and in occasional official or independent single-malt bottlings.
