Overview
Auchroisk (say “aw-throsk”), at Mulben near Keith, is a modern distillery built to supply the J&B blend. Its clean, nutty malt was once bottled under the name “The Singleton of Auchroisk” — among the first uses of the Singleton branding, adopted because the distillery’s own name was thought too hard to say.
The history
Auchroisk was built in 1972–74 by Justerini & Brooks (IDV) to guarantee malt for J&B, and has worked as a blending distillery ever since.
The water & the land
Auchroisk draws on Dorie’s Well, a soft granite-and-sandstone spring.
Auchroisk had no founding clan — it was a 1970s commercial build at Mulben, in Grant/Seafield Banffshire.
Visiting
Auchroisk is not open to the public — it is a working production distillery. Its whisky appears mainly in blends and in occasional official or independent single-malt bottlings.
