Overview
Ardmore, at Kennethmont in the Aberdeenshire hills, is unusual for an eastern Highland distillery in making a peated malt — a smoky, robust whisky that is the heart of the famous Teacher’s blend. It is a large, traditional distillery little seen on its own.
The history
Ardmore was built in 1898 by Adam Teacher, son of the founder of the Teacher’s blending firm, expressly to secure a reliable malt for the blend — a job it has done ever since, now under Suntory.
The water & the land
Ardmore draws on 15 springs on Knockandy Hill.
Ardmore had no founding clan — it was the Teacher family’s commercial venture at Kennethmont in Aberdeenshire, in historic Leith-Hay and Gordon country.
Visiting
Ardmore is not open to the public — it is a working production distillery.
