Overview
Loch Lomond, at Alexandria in the Vale of Leven, is one of the most unusual and versatile distilleries in Scotland: it makes both malt and grain whisky on one site, and uses distinctive straight-necked stills that let it produce many different styles. Its whiskies have become well known, not least as the official whisky of golf’s Open Championship.
The history
The present Loch Lomond distillery was built in 1965 and hugely expanded over the years into a large, flexible operation capable of making everything from light to heavily-peated malt. It is now owned by the Loch Lomond Group.

Loch Lomond draws on a borehole in the Loch Lomond catchment.
Loch Lomond had no founding clan — it is an industrial distillery in the Vale of Leven, near the bonnie banks that were historic Colquhoun, Buchanan and MacFarlane country.
Visiting
Loch Lomond has no dedicated malt-distillery visitor centre; tastings are offered at the group’s newer gin distillery at Luss on the loch — check the website. The loch itself, with Luss and the West Highland Way, is the great draw.
