Overview
Glenburgie, near Forres, is one of the principal malts in the Ballantine’s blend — a sweet, fruity Speyside style, rarely seen on its own. It is a large, modernised blending distillery.
The history
Glenburgie began around 1810 as the Kilnflat distillery, with commercial distilling from 1829. Long associated with Ballantine’s, it was substantially rebuilt in the 2000s, though for years it also ran rare “Lomond” stills making a variant called Glencraig.
The water & the land
Glenburgie draws on several local sources — springs, burns and a borehole near the distillery.
Glenburgie had no founding clan — it was a farm-distillery origin near Forres, in historic Grant/Gordon Moray.
Visiting
Glenburgie is not open to the public — it is a working production distillery with no visitor centre. Its whisky appears mainly in blends and in occasional official or independent single-malt bottlings.
