Overview

Crafty Distillery, near Newton Stewart at the foot of the Galloway Hills, is a modern craft distillery making the Billy & Co single malt (from an unusual malt-and-heather process) alongside its popular Hills & Harbour gin. It is one of the friendlier stops in Scotland’s under-visited south-west.

The history

Crafty was founded by Graham Taylor and opened in 2017, built from scratch as a contemporary craft distillery in a beautiful, quiet corner of Galloway. Its whisky is now maturing and being released.

The water & the land

Crafty draws on local water at the foot of the Galloway Hills.

Crafty has no clan link — it is a modern craft distillery in the rolling hills and forests of Galloway, historic Lowland country of the old Lordship of Galloway.

Visiting

Crafty has a visitor centre and runs tours and tastings — check the website. It pairs well with Bladnoch and the Machars for a Galloway whisky trip.
