Overview
Allt-a-Bhainne (“the burn of milk”), on the flank of Ben Rinnes, is a modern, functional distillery built purely to supply blends — a light, grassy Speyside malt now occasionally released young and lightly-peated under its own name.
The history
Allt-a-Bhainne was built in 1975 by Chivas/Seagram as an efficient, no-frills blend-malt plant, and it has done that job ever since.
The water & the land
Allt-a-Bhainne draws on springs on Ben Rinnes.
Allt-a-Bhainne had no founding clan — it was a 1970s Chivas build near Glenrinnes and Dufftown on Ben Rinnes, in historic Grant country.
Visiting
Allt-a-Bhainne is not open to the public — it is a working production distillery. Its whisky appears mainly in blends and in occasional official or independent single-malt bottlings.
